In “The Hunt”, Céline Bodin creates a brief encyclopedia of female hairstyles that have informed our vision of women throughout time. The twenty-one images featured in the book appear as mystical figures that draw upon one’s own fantasies and stereotypes of beauty. The project is edited by Radius Books, a non-profit publisher that makes high-quality art publications accessible to a wide audience and provides a platform to promote the work of emerging artists and writers.
Influenced by the pictorial style of the cyanotype series, the title lettering is based on the historical typeface Centaur with added details that emphasise its elegant and slender design. The ex-libris on the back cover recalls a Victorian hair medallion: a keepsake made from an ornate curl of a loved one’s hair and a pre-photographic memory that connects portraiture and identity.
